Vasculitis

Vasculitis is characterized by inflamed blood vessels that cause changes in the blood vessel walls.  These changes can include narrowing, thickening, weakening and scarring of the blood vessel walls.  This can affect a person for a short time or it can be chronic.  Sometimes it can be severe enough to affect blood flow, which can result in organ damage, tissue damage or even death.

General symptoms of vasculitis include fatigue, muscle/joint pain, numbness, fever and so on.  There are many different types of vasculitis with respective causes, signs, and symptoms; each is best diagnosed by a qualified physician.

When treatment is necessary, there are several options.  Corticosteroids, Cytotoxic drugs, and other anti-inflammatory drugs like NSAIDs aim to reduce inflammation and improve the patient's condition.  Treatment decisions will vary depending on the type of vasculitis, its severity, and the patient's particular health needs.
