Former women’s tennis champion Tracy Austin was recently spotted using a very old-fashioned strategy to protect her skin from the sun: an umbrella. As a teen in the ’70s, Austin played tennis for hours in the sun without the benefit of sunscreen. Now she’s trying to do her part to warn others about the dangers of excess sun exposure.
Austin and 32-year-old tennis star Lindsay Davenport are part of the Decades of Smooth skin-health awareness program affiliated with Juvederm, a dermal filler produced by the Botox-maker Allergan Inc. The tennis aficionados travel to tennis tournaments around the country educating people about the risk of wrinkles, cancer and burns. Austin has frequently been spotted in the stands carrying an umbrella for shade.
